The DAM Book: Digital Asset Management for Photographers Review

I just finished reading The Dam Book by Peter Krogh and it was incredibly useful.  As someone with a personal photo archive of more than 27,000 photos, I immensely appreciate the thought and effort Peter put into this definitive guide to digital photo management.  Much of what Peter practices is in line with the system I have created for myself.  Having determined the best file naming, folder structure, programs, and metadata systems for myself, it was reassuring to learn that very similar practices are considered industry standard.

The book reads like a college textbook, with a clear progressive structure, along with shout-outs along the way highlighting various aspects of the photo archive and management practice.  It serves a great purpose of both explaining the fundamentals and reasoning behind various file types and programs, as well as outlining a very systematic, easy to use system for utilizing all of the digital asset management tools at your disposal.

If anyone is interested in learning more about how to organize a photo archive, how to utilize metadata and keywords, what programs are best for image sorting and editing, or how to ensure you are fully protected against file corruption and drive failure, you definitely should consider The DAM Book.  It will answer the questions you have, make you think about things you haven't considered, and ensure you are building and maintaining a robust photo system that will last for years to come.
