Super Bowl SuperVote is Super Stupid

This video is to promote SuperVote, some YouTube style voting of the Super Bowl commercials after the game this Sunday. Thing is, the video nor the description with it give any clues as to how to do this, where, etc. etc. Maybe SuperVote should actually watch some of the commercials and learn a thing or two about good advertising.

Go Wash Your Skinny Hot Dog

Wow. Nothing quite like a foot-long to get your mind wandering. My Old Spice memories are of my dad using their after-shave when I was a kid. Now this? Thanks for scaring me for life, Old Spice.

Post-Its Help You Go Insane

Interesting, and the photo-shoots must have been great fun.

Sand Fantasy is Amazing

This video is pretty incredible. Not only is the style beautiful, but
this artist is so talented with it. Honestly one of the most impressive artistic things I have ever seen.

Super Strange Super Bowl Ad

This is the 'Maposaurus' spot for Garmin, a GPS company, that will run during this years Super Bowl. I don't know about this one. The soundtrack annoys me and I'm not a '50s sci-fi monster movie guy, so whatever. Here's some kind of blog that somehow promotes the commercial.

Before All of Our Mascots are Gone

This is just a one-off for the WWF, but I think it's great. I would love to see more than just the MGM lion missing. Let's get the Democratic Donkey, Tony the Tiger and Porky Pig in this campaign.

via

Forgive Your Mom You Childhood Loser

Come on, give your mom another chance and send her some damn flowers already. I don't particularly like these ads, just thought the approach was somewhat different.

Shedwa's Six: Steve Hall of Adrants

Name: Steve Hall
Title: Publisher
Blog: Adrants

SHEDWA: When and why did you start Adrants?
STEVE HAL
L: Adrants was born in March 2002 during a period of unemployment and in the early days of blogging. In seeking employment, I thought it would be a good idea to look at and comment on the current state of the industry as a way to stay in touch while not working. I did, ultimately, find work and kept Adrants going on the side until March 2004 when I was laid off once again. I looked for a job for about a week but soon realized Adrants had grown to the point where it could become an actual business.

So I put all my energy into Adrants. I had been selling ads by myself up until this point but that took time and skill that I didn't have so I signed with Watershed Publishing (publishers of MarketingVOX and MediaBuyerPlanner) for ad sales. To continue to grow revenue, over the years, I signed affiliate/partnership marketing deals with Portfolios.com, TalentZoo, iMediaConnection and, in addition to direct ad sales, put slotted in Google AdWords and BlogAds. As one would correctly assume, the lion's share of revenue comes from direct sales but all streams contribute significantly.

I never actively promoted Adrants over the years. It grew organically and I guess I had the advantage of first mover. Aside from Adland, there really weren't any other ad blogs out there at the time.

S: What do you find most interesting about the blogosphere?
SH: It's communal nature. The sharing. The notion that old media's "exclusivity" and hesitance to acknowledge sources was a thing of the past and this new style of journalism provided a more complete picture to the reader. It's humble. It's friendly aside from the occasional high school-like squabble.

S: What impact, if any, do you think blogs serve in the ad community?
SH: We have a huge impact. Ad Age reads us (by us, I mean all ad blogs) because they don't want to miss anything. In one sense, we do a lot of early reporting for them. Uncover new trends, stories, scoops which then sometimes find their way onto the pages of Ad Age. I'm not saying we're a replacement but a welcome addition that fleshes out what's going on in the industry.

In terms of the industry, we help paint a more expansive and complete picture of what's going on. We do it in a concise, quick, easy to read fashion that offers up thought provoking ideas for those who work in the industry. We uncover things that would normally remain unknown. We add insightful commentary from people who've worked in the industry. It's a different take than a professional journalist who may or may not have worked in advertising would offer.

We also have radically shifted the way marketers and their PR people communicate. Since we are so good at calling bullshit and have gained respectable mass within the industry, the approach marketers and PR types take is now more humble, less fluffy, more meaty and more straightforward. There's less mindless pontification...or at least we filter it out before it gets to readers.

Look what blogging did for AdWeek. It's blog, AdFreak, is now, it seems, more popular than its own website and magazine. Ad Age has also dabbled, although less successfully, in the blog space but it's changed their tone and their outlook on the industry. Even Bob Garfield blogs although not very often.

S: Adrants is currently moving towards Technorati's top 500. What do you attribute that success to?
SH: This is funny. We're actually sliding down. We had a high of about 212 about a year or so ago but since Technorati includes so many sources now and perhaps has changed the way it ranks, we're more like 400 (573...just checked). Technorati is all about links in, links out, links up, links down, links sideways. It can be gamed. Adrants has a far larger readership than many of the top 100 blogs on Technorati. Though some would argue the linkfest and the socially communal nature of blogs (and all media, for that matter) is what's important, readership, demographics, unique visits, page views and scale are still what advertisers buy, and, it's no secret, Adrants is ad-supported.

This may be old-school thinking but what's more important to the reader? How many links in and out a publication has or the quality of the information delivered. And, what's more important to a publisher looking for ad dollars? An incestuous, self-congratulatory link-fest or saleable unique visitors and page views? Sadly, it's still about the eyeballs.

S: If you couldn't blog about advertising, what would you blog about?
SH: In the early days I did blog about other things such as writing and general life observations. Perhaps, those were my purest blogging days but then Adrants happened. From time to time, I think about other topics but I keep coming back to advertising. I love it. I appreciate it. I love to both admonish it and praise it. I like to observe its changes and its idiosyncrasies. It's just fun.

I'm not sure what I'd blog about if I couldn't blog about advertising. Knowing me, I'd probably launch something like Fleshbot (NSFW).

S: What are your 5 favorite blogs, advertising focused or not?
SH: Hmm. Tough. There are so many good ones and my list changes all the time but:

Micropersuasion for Steve Rubel's insightful pulse on just about everything.

AdFreak for it's clear and concise coverage of advertising.

Adscam for George Parker's hilarious and incredibly snarky take on an industry he's been in for decades.

Shake Well Before Use for Ariel's cute but brash outlook on life, advertising and sex.

CoolzOr for his international view of things and his ability to both work and blog at length at the same time.

Check back each Wednesday for a new Shedwa's Six interview.

Creative Critics Rule

Ah, gotta love the creative critics out there. Each and every kind of 'em.

Orkin Catches Lots of Bugs

I love creative media when it makes sense. Exactly what this Orkin outdoor thing does. The Orkin logo is made out of sticky flypaper and posted clean. Over time, enough nasty insects crawl across the ad and get stuck to form the logo. Great, great work. Would love to see a time-lapse of one of these.

Windows Vista has Gone Crazy

So, this whole Vista launch is getting out of control. My last straw? Stumbling upon these Vista branded escalator bolts that were found at the launch presentation last night at Nokia Theatre in Times Square, New York City. I'm all for branding the hell out of things, but this is just insane. I hate that damn logo.

Tyra is Pissed Off and Not Fat

Tyra Banks is pissed after blunt headlines ran along side a picture of her in a bathing suit, appearing to have gained some weight. She has even gone so far as to address the issue on her show sporting the same swimsuit that is shown in the shot. Calm down and let it go already.

via

UPDATE: Now with YouTube video released from The Tyra Banks Show.

Derek Jeter Golfs with Celebrities for Cash

This is a few days late, but here is a poster for Derek Jeter's Celebrity Golf Classic, held the past three days in Tampa, FL. I don't really know why I am posting this, probably just because I am a huge Yankees fan and this is the closest thing to creative advertising I have seen from them in a while.

Sit with a Hot Girl for Free

LAist has a story of a Chicago Bears fan, Sarah, who so badly wants to go to the Super Bowl she is willing to auction herself off to the highest bidder. Or so that was her intention until eBay kicked her auction off. I guess they don't like people prostituting themselves on their site. Ok, ok, so she wasn't going to have sex with anyone. Anyways, how does this have anything to do with advertising? Well, Axe got wind of the whole thing and decided to turn Sarah's body into their latest promotion. They turned the tables and gave Sarah three free end zone tickets. Axe will then give a fourth remaining ticket to the loser/loseress who crafts the most compelling email and sends it to hotsuperbowldate@hotmail.com. The lucky guy or girl will sit with Sarah for the game. Better exercise those typing fingers guys.

Smirnoff Twist Twists the Story

Ha. I like these. Nice art direction, as well. Copy reads, "Old Story. New Twist. Smirnoff Green Apple Twist."

via

Pigs Feed Dirty Naked Children

This ad for Concordia Children's Services is just disturbing as hell. It actually makes me cringe to look at it. Maybe that was the intention. The copy reads, "If you don't help feed them, who will?"

via

Mac Goes British

The Mac got a British accent recently as the 'Get a Mac' ads debuted in the U.K. I don't know about the Mac guy having a button down shirt, though. See more of the U.K. versions here.

via

Maglite Shows You Everything

Nice idea and art direction. Copy reads, "See the dark side."

via

Coke Sniffing Toilets

An alright commercial for some super clean toilet that will steal your blow.

via

Ariel is Quick

Nice Ariel ads. I like the original art direction. Copy translates, "It takes more time to generate a stain than to remove it."

Don't Fear the Reaper

Kind of funny, but nothing new really. Copy on reads, "Yoga/Weightlifting/Running prolongs life."

Graffiti as Advertising

I came across these two graffiti type ads yesterday while walking through New York City's Meatpacking District at Washington St. and Little West 12th St. The ads are graffiti work on the side of a brick building, and both done by the same people, Tats Cru. The Ford Edge one uses more of a typical graffiti style, while the Starveillance looks almost exactly like a normal billboard would. I like them a lot. They make the advertisements more of a piece of art than just an image trying to sell you something.

These ads for MTV are out of Romania. The copy reads, "MTV Made in Romania." Love them. Well, maybe not love, but I like them enough to kiss them on the lips.

From Russia with Sexy Love

This commercial for Kreskova, a Russian vodka, is great. It's got everything I need; vodka and hot, near-naked girls. I'm booking my ticket to Russia now.

McDonald's Goes House Hunting

I really like the media buy working with the creative here. This ad runs directly next to the apartment classifieds with the copy reading, "Don't make big decisions on an empty stomach." Smart and to the point. Leave it at that. What? That's not it? Nope. They went a step further and threw in a twist with some unwanted location defects with the house; a volcano, a nuclear power plant and a space shuttle launch pad. But these things are too subtle. Most people aren't going to see them, and maybe that's not a bad thing. I like the ads better without.

via

Burger King Loves Marlboro

Burger King (CP+B) has recycled some old Marlboro art direction and thrown some clever new copy on it. Click each ad to enlarge and read the 'Surgeon General's Warning'. I wonder if all this great, creative advertising is really helping Burger King sell greasy cheeseburgers.

Draw Amazing People Forever

Copy reads, "Lasts forever." I like the art direction a lot, but I don't know if I would equate ball point pens with pop culture icons and heroes.

Andrew Keegan Sighting

Just one highlight of a crazy night. Andrew Keegan at an O.A.R. concert after party. He was a nice guy, and didn't mind us taking this pic.

How O.A.R. Ended Up with My Girlfriend's Purse

Saturday I was lucky enough to get my hands on a couple VIP tickets to the O.A.R. concert at Madison Square Garden. So, that night my girlfriend and I headed to The Garden. From the moment we got there, it was craziness. There were teenagers being arrested for underage drinking, girls puking in corners, one girl had passed out and was literally being drug along by security; I guess your typical concert scene, but even I thought it was a little insane.

After a few free drinks in the VIP area backstage, we found our seats and the show started. It was an amazing performance. The place was sold out, and O.A.R. sounded just as good live as they do on their albums.

After the show, we headed to the band's after party. The spot was a cool loft space with another open bar (my favorite). When we got there, my girlfriend started chatting up this guy. She said, "I know you
. You were in 10 Things I Hate About You."

"Yes I was." he said. The guy was Andrew Keegan. My girlfriend chatted him for a bit more and then we got this picture with him. He was a really nice, down to earth guy. A little later, the band showed up and we were introduced to them as well. Also great guys. After some more drinks and some more dancing, we decided to call it a successful night and head home. Little did we know our night was just beginning.

We jumped in a cab and headed to Brooklyn. After getting across the bridge, I realized I only had a few dollars in cash, so I asked my girlfriend for some dough. It was then that she realized she didn't have her purse. She must had left it at the after party. Cell phone, camera, iPod, everything gone. So, I threw a fiver ($5) at the cab driver to cover the $20 fare and ran away. I tried calling my girlfriend's phone, hoping whomever had it would answer and we could get her stuff back. No such luck.

The next morning we woke up feeling badly about her loss. We had a moment of silence for her iPod, called to notify the bank of the death of their debit card and tried to remember the good times we had with her camera. After that, I checked my phone and was surprised to see that I had missed calls from her phone earlier that morning. Someone must have her phone! So, I called it back and sure enough, a guy answers and tells me he has her purse and everything. It was left at the party he threw the night before. He remembers meeting us. He's one of the members of O.A.R. Craziness. So, we head to his apartment and get back her purse. Everything is in it, all is right in the world again and we have a crazy story to tell. Good night, good night. Moral of the story: I definitely recommend taking any free tickets that are thrown your way. You never know where they will lead.

Mini Goes Crazy with Type

These Mini ads are out of control good. I really like them. Great combination of copy and art direction to deliver a well thought out message. Damn, wish I would have thought of it. The tagline reads, "Incredibly Mini. The new Mini." You can click to enlarge each image to read the various copy. These are just a few of the many executions. You can check out more here, here, here, here, here, here, oh and here, there's one over here, another here, one more here, damn they just keep coming here and here, one tried to escape here, and here, spotted one here.

Nice art direction seems to be the phrase of the day. The copy for this ad reads, "Foreign films. Every Monday at The Ghetto Bar." To clarify, this bar is located over seas, making Jaws a foreign film. I like.

MADD Gets Intense

Wow. This ad for MADD is striking. Such a strong visual. The copy reads, "Don't make it a grad to forget." which doesn't really make sense and takes away from the visual. Powerful no matter what, though.

Pepto Bismol Will Destroy Your Taco Stand

Nice. Love the art direction. Copy reads, "Digests anything."

Carmen Electra Loves to Suck on Burritos

Alright, so I've seen a few different variations of this Taco Bell campaign featuring Carmen Electra. And I just have to say, I do not approve. I'd love to see Carmen in a condom campaign, a billboard for her aerobic stripper tapes, a commercial for the backseat of a car, etc. There really aren't many things I wouldn't mind seeing her doing, but eating a burrito just isn't one of them.
I don't want to equate a ridiculously hot girl with greasy, fattening, Mexican fast food. Is it just me, or does anyone else agree?

Tiger Woods Will Tackle Your Ass

While filming his latest Buick commercial, Tiger Woods decided it would be funny to adlib the scene. His interpretation? Run full speed at the other actor and take him down...hard. The guy ended up with a cut on his forehead that had to be treated. Oh Tiger, what a kidder you are.

New York Sexy State of Mind

This morning's edition of AM NY has an article on how New York City will soon be branding their condoms. The article reports that the city gives away 18 million free comdoms each year, but feels that people will be more inclined to use them if they are NYC branded. One idea is to feature the subway lines on the wrappers. I love the quotes the paper published when asking people what the best theme would be; "How about the Chrysler or Empire State buildings? They're big and phallic.", "MTA logo - it's good for one ride."

Kelloggsofious Blogise Postious

Kinda got a kid theme going on today. First it was for a toothbrush, not it's for Kellogg's Corn Flakes. I like these also, but not as much as the teeth.

Fine Pen, Fine Idea

I like these. Nice, clean art direction. The copy translates, "Fine Pen." Good luck being able to see the writing, though. Maybe they should include a magnifying glass with every purchase.

AdBrite Introduces InVideo

Morning L Train Commutes are Horrible

My morning commute in New York City just keeps getting worse and worse. This morning, I had to let 4 L trains pass by before I could even think about squeezing into my normal 1/2 foot space seconds before I had to "stand clear of the closing doors please". Then, while I was comfortably leaning against an over-sized book-bag and a dirty bike wheel, the train sat at Union Square for 7 straight minutes without moving. Finally, we moved again and I got to my transfer destination, 6th Ave, and I headed to the 1 train. I wait another 7 minutes till the 1 finally comes, and I easily fit on, only to have the conductor announce that the train will not be making local stops. What!? But the 1 is a local train, that's what it does, it makes local stops. So, I have to get off and wait for the next 1 train that does make local stops. I eventually arrive at Christopher Street and make my way to work. Only a 45 minute commute to go about 3 miles. Not too shaby.

Create Your Own Food Capturing Web

Ian Benardo is Your Ultimate New Yorker

Alright, I admit it...I love American Idol...but only the audition episodes. Once all the crazies go home and the talent filled head to Hollywood, I couldn't care less who wins/loses/cries/dies, etc. Of this years auditions, this has to be one of my favorites. His name is Ian Benardo and is the, self professed, ultimate New Yorker. Well, the ultimate New Yorker wears mink fur, is high strung and had to be escorted out by security...that sounds about right.

Ian scarily reminds me of Mike Myers in the SNL Coffee Talk skits:

David Gregory is a Funny Fool

So this dude, David Gregory, is filling in for Matt Lauer on The Today Show all this week. Well, this morning was his time to shine. He fumbled all over the place, topping it off by referring to a murder as a "lighter note". Good work David.

Advertising Ads Advertise Advertising Blog

These are the first ads I've ever seen for an advertising blog. They are for Ads of the World and the copy reads, "One leads to another." I guess it's fitting that they feature other people's ads in their ads, basically what they do on their blog. The idea in the ads (look at others good work and you will make similar good work) doesn't do it for me. The equations just look like you should put two other ads together and make your own, when the real goal should be to create something completely different. Come on AOTW, I expect more from you.

Tons of Tiny Scenes

These are great. I'm not sure if they were for magazines, outdoor or what, but I like them a lot. I would have had fun drawing all those little people.

Mellencamp Sold Out to Chevy

I'm sure most of you have seen this Chevy commercial, "This is Our Country", as it runs a lot. Now, John Mellencamp, the artist who wrote the song and is featured in the spot is speaking out about selling out. He says, "For a guy my age, there's no place for our music to be heard. These records take too long. They're too hard to make, and they're too hard to do, and why would you want to do them unless people are going to hear them?" Well put. Gotta feel bad for an artist who is riding his career as it tumbles down a steep slope. Now go grab his new album.

AM New York Attacks Ads

Today's AM New York has an article about the increasing ad coverage of buildings around New York City. The article makes some good points, "...living anywhere in Manhattan will be as overstimulating as camping out in Times Square."

In other places, however, it is more opinionated, "The next wave we are seeing is imprisoning your attention so you don't have the option of changing the channel. Whether it's emblems on elevator doors, sidewalks or even eggs, companies literally want you to have no choice but to look." I have to disagree here. I think media planners are just finding ways to better reach their target and communicate to them more directly. What do you think?

Burn a Hole in Your Mouth

A touch of bleach and that stain will come right out. I like today's other hot sauce ad better than this one for Sil Chili Sauce.

via

Crash Dummies Beware of VW GTI

It took me a second, but I got it. I just like seeing the crash dummies in unlikely scenarios.

Peprico Hot Coals

Peprico Red Pepper Sauce. Nice.

Shedwa's Six: Doug Craig of OOH Marketing and Design

Name: Doug Craig
Title: Publisher
Blog: OOH Marketing and Design
SHEDWA: Why did you start your own blog?
DOUG
CRAIG: A couple of reasons. I've been in the advertising/media buying/media selling business for nearly 15 years, and though it's horizontal in many ways, it's also a series of very niche silo's. Outdoor/Out of Home or whatever it is being labeled these days is very vertical in nature and there is very little focused in the area. That is the focus. Though I am still working on finding my editorial voice and true focus, the OOH category, industry, sector is what I am focusing on.

The main reason (OOH Marketing and Design) was started was to support a secondary business ideal that is still taking shape. The blog, if it catches on, will serve as one, if not the primary, marketing vehicle to help kickstart the venture.

S: What do you focus on in your blog?
DC: Marketing and Advertising, specifically in OOH areas, ranging from billboards - transit - guerilla marketing - street art (there is a real grey area where marketing and a lot of street art mesh into one another). Marketing is about sending a message, and so is the majority of contemporary art projects. Is it just semantics that separate the two? I am not an artist, so I can only offer an observation that the majority of art class outcasts see everyday.

S: Where do you find the content that you include in your blog?
DC: All across the Internet, with my eyes on the streets of NYC, over the phone from people I speak with and through the lense of my camera.

S: What impact, if any, do you think blogs serve in the ad community?
DC: Having been in the publishing business (selling on the trade side), I have seen first hand how limited and often skewed the information that makes it to publication can be. The web and blogs lets everyone play in the sand box and brings us so much deeper into the game. People getting into the business today have no idea how much of an advantage it is to completely immerse yourself in an industry (any one) and get a real feel for the poltical bullshit and games that all too many industries have. It also allows talent, in certain cases, to rise above the fray on the merits of its own value.

S: Why the snarling dog image on your blog?
DC: My dog Buddy, who we rescued from a Brooklyn snow bank 6 years ago. He and his brother Bear are now happily running around the woods of Putnam County on a daily basis.

S: What are your 5 favorite blogs, advertising focused or not?
DC: MetsBlog (huge Mets fan), I would have to lump all of the ad blogs: Adrants, Shedwa
(no, this is not because of the interview), AOTW, Maraketta (a flickr site
but bookmarked him early on and he continuously delivers), AdJab.

Check back each Wednesday for a new Shedwa's Six interview.

A Play for Those Forever 27

Coming this March to New York City is 27 Heaven, an off Broadway play about the most famous members of Rock and Roll's 27 Club: Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimmie Hendrix and Jim Morrison. From the looks of it, this show is pretty low-budget and amateur, but it could surprise me.

Above is a 'commercial' aka home video for the show. Check back in March for a review.

Beer Beer Beer Ads

I really like the art direction in these Nova Schin Beer ads a lot. It's so different from most of the beer ads I see. Click on the images to enlarge and read the copy. I'm not sure about the "...in other words...in other words beer" lines, but whatever. The beached whale in love with the beached whale is funny.

via

Starch to Heal Broken Bones

Umm...alright, well that was one idea. Maybe you should have thought of a few more.

via

Zune Blows

I already don't like the Zune advertising, but this one is just funny. It's an online banner ad with the headline, "welcome to the social". That's one hell of a welcoming. Where exactly can we find this social and this welcoming girl?

Juicy Starbursts are Worth the Puke

Eat Starburst and get puked on by a beluga whale. Yes!

Karate Masters Beware

Lots of karate guys getting hurt lately. First for wood, now for Fibermesh Concrete. I like the other ones better.

via

You're Not Gonna Blow this House Down

This is a nice idea with nice art direction for Dulux Woodgard. The only problem I have with it is probably the same that the client has; the product gets lost in the scene. A tagline and small logo in a corner might have been a good idea.

via

National Geographic Hummers

I don't think these ads need the National Geographic theme, it just confuses the message. The copy reads, "Challenge Nature." and I think that is a good headline. Stick with it and just blow out the visual, get rid of the yellow border and you might have a good ad.

1.22.2007

Please Don't Squash or Eat the Trees

Love this. The ad is for TEMA and is meant to create awareness among primary school children of soil erosion, deforestation and the protection of natural habitats. Man did I love Play-Doh as a kid...still do. Did I mention I love this ad?

via

Fondation Nicolas Hulot has Horrible Taste

I don't know if any ad that references 9/11 to promote its own motives will ever be OK with me, especially this one. Copy reads, "For nature, every day is 9/11." Yea, but it's only the trees getting killed, not thousands of people. At least they didn't place a leaf falling from the fire.

via

I've Got a Sandal for a Penis

This ad just makes no sense. I kind of have some hatred for it. The only thing I respect is the illustration, nice job there.

via

What the Hell is Lovemarks

I like these, but I have no idea what this Lovemarks Conference is. Nice art direction though.

via

UPDATE: This is Lovemarks.

Every Times Square Ad

Ever want to see every Times Square ad by themselves, listed right next to each other? Probably not, but just in case here it is: Every Ad in Times Square circa January 22nd, 2007.

Whatever Happens, Read This

I like these ads. They are for a Belgian radio station and the copy reads, "Whatever happens, feel good. Contact Radio." The situations are kinda wacky, and I like that, especially the cavemen in the dinosaur.

Start Sending Send Out Cards

Want to make someone you care about smile? Need to mail a quick thank-you note to a friend? Then check out this Send Out Cards video. You can quickly and easily personalize real greeting cards from your personal computer to send out to friends and family. No art direction skills needed, choose from tons of templates. So, stop reading and watch the video so you can start sending Send Out Cards.

I'd Rather Have the Wallpaper

Copy reads, "Q7. Samsung's slimmest Plasma TV." Dumb. What are they trying to say? That the wallpaper people are going to ruin my TV? Maybe show how the slimness of the TV HELPS me. There's an idea; a product helping a consumer! Revolutionary!

via

Cremer Tape Ads that Stick

I like these a lot. Nice art direction. Way to do something creative with a boring product, factory floor tape. Next you gotta give the brands logo a make-over.

Ski the Winter Away

Winter months got you down? Feeling anxious to get away for a week or two? Love to ski your heart out? Well then, head over to Chalets Meribel today and plan your trip. Stay in the mountains of places around the globe, including Courchevel, Meribel, St. Anton in France and Austria. Spend time with that special someone, or bring the kids. Hell, bring the kids and send them to a ski lesson on the slopes while you stay inside with that special someone. Whatever your desire, make it come true.

Toyota Human Touch

Awesome commercial here for Toyota. There are rarely commercials that I want to watch again, but this one did it for me. Wow, that was good.

via

Smoke Out Your Eyeballs

At first glance this ad seems to be promoting littering of cigarette butts, however the copy inside the ash tray reads, "Smoking can kill your eyesight first." Well, that may be true, but the tiny copy on this ad is killing my eyesight right now.

via

Protect Your Wood

The copy on these ads for some kind of wood treatment reads, "Protects Wood". Interesting idea, but tells me nothing about how it protects it or from what. Besides ninjas, of course. Would have been funnier as a commercial.

Amnesty International Peel Away People

I like this piece for Amnesty International, but it took me a minute to get it. When you peel away the first person, it is symbolic of helping that person, and then behind him is another person to help. It is basically saying that 'it never ends' and they need your help.

Laugh 'till Your Stomach's Hard

These ads for SKY Satellite TV are a bit disturbing. Copy reads, "The best comedy movies, only on SKY". I vomit in my mouth a little bit at a couple of them. Good idea, but poor execution. Check out more poor executions here.

Models Get Sugar High

This video is of some models sitting around talking candy. Lots of candy. I don't know what all this 'ban skinny models' talk is about, these girls love their sugar. The thing is, this video was posted to YouTube by Ford Models. So is this some sort of viral ad campaign for Ford Models?

Kimberly-Clark Does The View

Kimberly-Clark has teamed up with The View to give away $25,000 a day in room make-overs for one whole month in their Room-A-Day Giveaway. Not only are they giving away the cash and products, but they have also given us this lovely musical performance. These singing and dancing product placements will haunt me for weeks to come. Thanks Rosie. Read more about the cross-promo here.

Building Gets Wrapped Up in Itself

This building at the corner of 5th Ave and 21st Street in New York City is being remodeled, and instead of the normal black shrouds covering the exterior they have been kind enough to paint us a picture of what the completed project will look like. I guess you can consider this a form of advertising, as it shows the finished product to potential residents. I like it.

When Billboards Attack

High wind gusts blew billboards off the walls of this soccer field, sending them flying straight towards players on the field. Three injuries were reported. If anyone has better quality video, please comment.

Nikon Rabbits are Scary

I like this idea, but the art direction makes the rabbits look insane. They freak me out. The ad is for a Nikon camera with automatic red-eye reduction. Thanks for the nightmares, Nikon.

via

Eat this Sickly Bird

This ad for some sort of seasoning or something is not appetizing in the least. The copy translates, "You won't leave a crumb". If I saw this ad and bought the product I don't think I could eat it without thinking of this disgusting bird.

via

At Least the Popcorn is Kinda Real

So, I'm sure most of you have seen this already, but I thought I would make it available here as well. It's Orville Redenbacher brought back to creepy life by CP+B in CG. Check out one of the originals, with a little less creepiness, below.

PETA Gets Naked

PETA has released it's State of the Union Address...naked. That's right, this cute little brunette delivers the speech while getting undressed. Completely undressed. You can view the full video here (NSFW). Let's just hope President Bush doesn't follow this trend.

BBDO Employees Shooting Creativity

This is a self-promotion piece for BBDO Athens. I guess all of their creatives are considered junkies then.

Watch New Yorkers Kick Each Others Ass

Today's cover of AM New York read, "Web of Violence" and featured an article about all of the fight videos that are appearing on YouTube, creating "cyber bullies". Parents think, like they do with violent movies and shows, that if their kids see the videos they are gonna run out and do it themselves. Yea, they probably will. I don't know how parents are going to try to combat this, but online criminal videos have actually helped in some other ways. Some YouTube videos have actually helped police find criminals. They are dumb enough to film themselves committing crimes and then upload themselves to YouTube. Idiots.

This fight comes straight from my home turf, Brooklyn:

Jeep Writes on Water

Cool video here for Jeep using waterfall technology to create the logo and brand name and all. Has anyone bought that prime ad medium that is Niagara Falls yet?

Music Books are Crappy

Good attempt to link books and music here, but poor execution. The tiny copy reads, "Music books. RM10 voucher with every purchase from the performing arts section." The only one of these ads that you can even recognize as a book is the third one, the first two just look like 'pause' and 'stop'.

via

Post-It Pimp My Ride

So you go out and cover your friend's Jaguar in post it notes, creating a beautifully colorful masterpiece, even writing his name on the back windshield. He comes and sees it, you all have a good laugh and that's the end of it, right? Wrong. ABC News finds out about your little stunt, and poof; ABC news story about an InPhonic practical joke is airing all over the place. Can you say viral sensation? Check out more images here.

Statue of M&M Liberty

M&M's has created a 50ft tall green M&M Statue of Liberty and is floating it around the Hudson River today. The stunt is to promote the new Planet M&M site, where you can design your very own M&M avatar. The M&M Statue was down by the real Statue of Liberty today at 6:45am, but you can catch it at 10:30am at the Southstreet Sea Port or at 2pm at the Chelsea Piers.

via

UPDATE: Im
age of the statue below. Video can be seen here.

Hoover on Planes

This ad for Hoover Vacuums was done by students of the Miami Ad School. It's a good idea, but it would never run. You think airlines would really allow ads to appear on board that encourage viewers to break the plane? It's still good student work, however.

Snow Falls on New York City

There is finally snow on the ground in New York City. That same crazed snow fan sent in these pics of the snow in Astoria this morning. Enjoy it while it lasts, because it will probably melt by the end of the day.

Banksy for Free

Banksy, the street graffiti artist, is now offering a 'free online store' for those of us who can't afford to purchase one of his prints. As the site states, "Everything in the shop is free. All the images can be downloaded to print or use as a desktop. Serving suggestion: Prints look best when done on glossy paper using the company printer ink when everyone else is at lunch." Ah, gotta love Banksy.

Coffee Stains are Cool

This spot for Jacqmotte coffee is based on the ink blot test. Pretty nice visual spot, but it reminded me of the Gnarles Barkley "Crazy" video, below, which I like much better.

iPhone Was, Is and Will Be Amazing

I posted before about Apple's announcement of the iPhone, but I figured I would remind everyone that it will be released this Summer. Just to remind you, the iPhone features a complete touch screen user interface, full HTML web browsing, camera, email, iPod capabilities and more more more. Yes, the Apple iPhone is set to be released in June, and expect Apple to make even more improvements to the dream device before then.

Tiny Hot Sauce Makes Smoke

Hmmm...alright, but that is a SMOKE detector, not a FIRE detector. Fire is hot, not smoke. And what is that tiny spec in the bottom right corner? Oh, that's the product being advertised? I almost didn't even see it. Good try though.

via

Hot for Teacher Ad

I don't know what the hell TG4 is, but I like it. If you are blind, this ad features a hot girl dressed as a school teacher. Well, if you are blind you can't read this, but that's what the ad features anyways.

Blow Her and She'll Blow Your Mind

Lynx is giving you the chance to blow a beautiful woman, and in the process remove her clothes. That's right, you can blow all her clothes right off. All you need is a microphone or headset and a hell of a set of lungs. Blow your little heart out at Lynx Blow.

Grown Ups Travel Free

These ads for some crazy ferry company called Stena Lines are kinda creepy. But, when you read the tagline and realize what they are actually advertising, it makes perfect sense. I like.
