Police Jobs Look Exciting

I really like the art direction in these police recruitment ads. It's interesting, and has a lot going on, which is exactly the message they were trying to send about the job. Very nice job.

Create Your Own Donut Eating Simpsons Character

The new Simpsons Movie is coming to theaters July 27th, but you can get your donut fix now with the microsite. It's got lots of cool things to keep you distracted from your real work. My favorite is the create your own character feature. It's got many options to choose from. The entire site isn't up and running yet, but there's games and more. Have fun exploring Springfield.

Carrie Underwood Got a Milk Mustache

I've always liked the Got Milk? celebrity print campaign, and this one with Carrie Underwood makes it even better. She looks great. This ad is almost a year old now, but just for good measure, a few more shots from the shoot are below.

Go Blow Fish a Chupa Chup

Not anything too great about this Chupa Chups ad, but it's a nice little one off. I love the colors and art direction. Sea life is fun, and it might just be this horrid heat filled NYC weather, but I want to go swimming now.

CiCi's Boomerang Sign

A nice little viral effort from CiCi's Pizza. I'm starting to see a formula in these viral vids. They all have crazy little special effects and try to look like amateur video. Why can't creatives just come up with a unique and entertaining short video and stop trying to imitate each other?

Huge Pepsi Logos Make for Great Ads

I absolutely love these new Pepsi spots. I think the idea of the giant pepsi logo ball thing is great, and the commercials are so well made. I hope to see more from this campaign.

Stuff You Might Like 3: Read Up On It

In this week's edition of Stuff You Might Like, I've featured some books that I've read that I think are good reads for any advertising person.

Hey Whipple Squeeze This - This was one of my text books during my advertising studies in college. It's an easy read, and covers the various trials and tribulations of creating ads in this crazy business.

Hoopla - I haven't read this one, but I flipped through it and was intrigued. It comes from the people at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, so it's gotta be dynamite.

Cutting Edge Advertising - This was one of my favorite reads. It features great, full-color ad samples and lots of good insights and stories of the industry. This one got me through my first internship in creative advertising.

Check back each Monday for a new Stuff You Might Like edition.

Ariel Shows How Disturbing Teenage Love Is

What the hell is going on here? Are kids really creepy little stalkers like this commercial suggests? Who actually collects discarded food from their crushes? I can remember when I was in Middle School I kept love letters and phone numbers, but pizza? Straws? Why not just go gather her fingernails after she cuts them while you're at it. Either Ariel missed the boat on this one, or I'm completely removed from the teenage love trends.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Gets Artsy

I'm a little surprised to see such artistic ads coming from Pabst Blue Ribbon, but they are great none the less. Thanks PBR.

Merpeople Take Over Coney Island for the Mermaid Parade

If you love mermaids, fish or simply half-naked women, then you would love the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. I checked out the parade today, which was the 25th anniversary of the annual event. It was a crazy time. People parade the boardwalk and streets of Coney Island dressed as mermaids, mermen, merbabies, mersluts and anything else you can mer. It was a lot of fun seeing how far some people took their costumes. Some girls let all of their gills hang out and don't even bother to cover themselves. This proved to be more flattering on some then others. Check out all the pics below, and be sure to hit the parade for yourself next year.

Pamela Anderson Gets Back in Her Red Bathing Suit

I really like the new DirecTV ads that recreate old movie and television scenes and then have the actors themselves talk directly into the camera telling you about DirecTV. I think they are smart and entertaining. Past actors to appear in the spots have been Charlie Sheen in his role from Major League and Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future.

The latest, though, is a little different. The star is Pamela Anderson in her famous Baywatch role. Like the others, she talks into the camera, but I have no idea what she says. I'm too preoccupied with, ummm, well, her huge chest. She even talks about how her famous slow-motion running scenes. Here are some photos from the commercial shoot.

Terra Parental Control is Great

I think these ads are great. Copy reads, "Don't let anyone break into your kids world. Terra Parental Control. Safe surfing for your children. Control access to websites. Monitors chatrooms." I love the art direction and the worlds they created. Great message, too.

Condor Travel Tries to be Simple

Copy reads, "Get to know more about New York/Paris. Condor Travel." Is anyone else confused by these? I think where I'm getting lost is that the visual and the copy contradict each other. If they had scrunched everything they could about the two cities into the ads, I think it may have made more sense.

Havaianas are Wonderful

I love Havaianas advertising more and more with each installation. These ads look so great. The lines are pretty great, too. Enlarge the images to enjoy them fully. M&Ms are a Blurry Mess Up Close

These M&M ads have a great idea going for them, but horrible execution? All of the various candies make up an image, but it's almost impossible to see close up as a print ad. If you want to see them, enlarge to fit your screen and then step/roll/crawl back about 10 feet and it should become clear. Turn them into a billboard, and I'm hooked.

Bic Slaps Their Logo on Artwork and Artists

I love the illustrations in these, but the ads themselves are kind of lame. I bet the artwork wasn't drawn with that Bic, and if that's the case then what's the freakin' point? Don't try to pass off amazing artwork as being drawn by your cheap pen. Copy reads, "Make your choice." Guarantee a Bic had no effect in these musicians choice to become what they did. Classic case of slapping your brand on something great, and in turn making it crappy.
