Did these actually originate from France? I've seen the gay one before in an english version and the numerous instances of english text in the backgrounds suggest an American origin.
Good point, I'm not sure. The songs are in English as well, which also makes me wonder. Maybe they were taken from the English version and slapped French text on the ass end.
The cityscape (at least in the straight one) looks French, but I dunno.

Ha! These are public service announcements. I can absolutely 100% postively guarantee that these would never ever ever be shown on an American television network. The English may be there just to be "cool" or rock-video-like, or they may be from England. And they may have been made in America (which I very much doubt, because they look more Euro to me). But they are not made for the American market. Period.

AIDES is a public organization fighting against HIV-AIDS (which is called SIDA in french).

@Jennifer: funny, I laughed all through the gay spot, and didn't find it "bleak" at all. But then I'm gay. Maybe it's a sensibility thing that you lack? It's weird to find something you are totally cool with be called "bleak" by an outsider. Then again, I think my single girl friend's constant endeavor to marry well a bit depressing... guess it depends on your life experiences.

Jennifer, I can see where you're coming from with the comment about the gay version being a little bleak. However, it's merely an accurate portrayal of many of the things that GLBT individuals face in the world. It's a sad thing yes, but the world hasn't progressed as far socially as many of us would like to believe. Ridicule, harassment, and abuse are only a few of the things that those of us who are other than straight face on a daily basis.
While the gay spot may seem a bit bleak, the hetro one frankly is also pretty equally miserable. The girl tries to play with the boys and is rejected, the gay boy doesn't want to play with the other boys, but the girls reject him, too.
After that they largely both have the same experiences of temporary flings, except that he has a brush with gay-bashing (which is sad, even if it's realistic).
I think keeping themselves grounded with the gay version makes it much easier for GLBT youth to identify with the spot, and therefore pay attention to it and hopefully learn something.
The ads are definitely better than anything that would be shown on US TV, and also well-done. But I could've done without the stereotypical "black men all have ginormous dicks" implication in the straight one.

I knew only an old URL (http://www.totallycrap.com/media/aids2/) which does not work now, I knew they were animated, that they had something to do with AIDS, and that one was straight, the other gay. The searchnig cue was that these animations are French.
